How do I convert WebP to GIF without losing quality?

WEBP files are not opening on my Mac and Windows 10 PC. I have more than 10 WebP images that I need to convert to GIF format. However, I'm concerned about maintaining the quality during the conversion process. I'm aware that converting between formats can sometimes result in a loss of quality, and I'm looking for the best method to convert WebP to GIF to ensure that my GIFs look just as good as the original WebP files.

I'm using a Mac at home and Windows 10 PC at office. I'm particularly interested in tools that offer a high degree of control over the conversion settings, such as frame rate, resolution, and color fidelity, to ensure the output is as close to the original as possible.

If anyone has experience with this specific type of conversion and can share their tips or preferred tools, it would be incredibly helpful. Thank you in advance for the help!

If your Windows PC or Mac has Adobe Photoshop app installed, then it is easy to convert webp to gif with PS.

  1. Launch Adobe Photoshop. Go to File > Open and select the WebP file you want to convert.
  2. Go to File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy).
  3. In the Save for Web dialog box, select GIF from the preset drop-down menu on the top right.
  4. Adjust the settings as needed. You can modify options like color reduction, dither, and lossy to optimize the file size and quality.
  5. Once you're satisfied with the settings, click Save. Choose the destination folder, name your file, and click Save again to complete the process.

Your WebP image is now converted to a GIF format using Photoshop. However, you can only convert one WebP image to GIF at one time!

Once, I needed to convert WebP to GIFs in my office using Windows 10 because my device does not support the WebP format. I thought it would be simple and quick, so I used the online conversion tool Convertio.

The whole process was pretty smooth, but there were too many ads that kept popping up, which was annoying. The upload and download speeds were also a bit slow, probably because I uploaded a lot of files and I was a bit anxious waiting. Fortunately, the conversion was successful in the end, and the quality of the GIF image was not bad.

Although the online tool is easy to operate and convenient for emergency use, the problems of too many ads and slow speed are really unpleasant. If you need to convert frequently, it may be more reliable to find a local software. But it is still quite convenient to use it occasionally, like in my case.

Using the Preview app on your Mac to convert WebP to GIF is a very simple and convenient method. Here are the specific steps:

  1. Find the WebP file you need to convert in Finder.
  2. Right-click the file, select "Open with", and then select "Preview".
  3. Export as GIF:
  4. Select the "Export" option.
  5. Select the GIF format:
  6. In the export dialog that pops up, click the format drop-down menu and select "GIF".
  7. You can adjust the image resolution and other settings in the export options to ensure the quality of the converted GIF image.
  8. Save the file:
  9. Select the save location and click "Save".

This method is simple and easy to use, and you don't need to download any third-party software. The Preview app can maintain the quality of the image very well, and provides some basic adjustment options to help you keep the original image as much as possible during the conversion process.
