After deleting an email, it comes right back into my inbox on my MacBook Air

Log into the web interface of each of the email providers with the browser of you choice.

Remove the offending email and empty the bin while still there

Give it about 1 - 2 minutes

Log Out of each

Check your Mail Application

The 2 different email accounts, Yahoo and Gmail, to not always play nice in macOS

It is not really an Apple Mail client issue but rather how the Third Party Services interacts when used on macOS.

Apple can fix Apple Services, Applications, Operating Systems 

Apple can not fix Third Party Service

Those issues falls clearly Out-Side the Domain of Apple and belongs solely with the Third Party Service
