Problems pasting text from Word (OSx version) into pages

I m replacing some text in a book I did, I copied from word Doc. selected text to replace, and pasted. The text wound up in a column 2 letters wide on the left of the page. Only a few words pasted in, and in this strong and inexplicable format.

Help! I'm in process of redoing the whole book.

Thanks

Sean

Pages is not a Word clone and copy/pasting content from MS Word into Pages sends along Word-specific styling to the macOS clipboard in a format that Pages may not know how to render correctly. You might consider opening the Word document in another Pages window and after the translation into .pages format, then copy/pasting the Pages content or copy/pasting styles between Pages documents. Or…

Another option is the text clipping. With the Word document open in MS Word and a Pages document open adjacent to the Word document window, select the donor text, click and hold as you drag that selected text over onto the Pages document, and release.
