If you are saying that many UPI payment apps now require iOS 17 or higher, I believe that you would be correct.

I believe this is a mandate of NPCI (National Payment Corporation of India) on the UPI payment app developers, and they, in turn, are now imposing this requirement on you.

Whether you can update an iPhone to iOS 17 or 18 depends on its model. If your iPhone is not on one of these two lists, you cannot update it to iOS 17 or higher.

If your iPhone is compatible with iOS 17 or 18, and you want to update it to a version that Apple is offering to you, see Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support .

Unable to use paytm on iphone 11

If your iPhone 11 is running something earlier than iOS 17, you will need to update it to at least iOS 17 to use UPI payment apps. You will also need to satisfy any other requirements NCPI and your bank may impose.

The iPhone 11 is compatible with iOS 17 – and will be compatible with iOS 18, which Apple just announced, and which will be available starting less than a week from now (on September 16, 2024). So you're in a better boat than the OP, whose iPhone 7 Plus cannot update past iOS 15.

iOS 17 🥹🥹

Without knowing which iPhone you own, we can't know if your phone is capable of running iOS 17. To help however, if you own iPhone X or older, which includes iPhone 8, SE First Generation, iPhone 7, 6 or older, you CANNOT run iOS 17 on your phone. If you own one of these older model phones and you need iOS 17, then you'll have to buy a newer, more modern iPhone.

Update phone

Assuming you own an iPhone 7, and you were told to update iOS 17 in order to use your payment apps, read the thread, where it has been explained over and over that you cannot update an iPhone 7 to iOS 17. If you want to complain to anyone, complain to UPI, who made this decision, not Apple. Or buy a newer, more modern iPhone, which is capable of running the newer iOS versions.

how can I use Paytm,PhonePe and google pay

Replace your iPhone with one that can run iOS 17.

The App Store description of the PayTM and PhonePE apps says that they only require iOS 14.0 or later. I don't know what the Google Pay app requires because Google decided to pull that app from the U.S. App Store.

I could be mistaken, but my understanding is that NCPI has mandated that all UPI payment apps which run on the iPhone must require iOS 17 or later for certain kinds of UPI transactions. It is NCPI – and the app developers who must comply with NCPI's rules – who are locking you out of making UPI transactions on iPhones that are not able to update as far as iOS 17. Not Apple.

If IOS17 is the norm… apple need to provide the update till at lease iPhone 7… still now it is not giving… so we are pushed to upgrade our hardware. That is the point here

There will be no update to iOS 16 for the iPhone 7 – let alone updates to iOS 17 or later.

The iPhone 7 does not meet the hardware requirements to run iOS 16, 17, and 18. Apple introduced that phone about eight years ago, and at that time, it was running iOS 10. It has received five major version updates, but it now is at the end of the line.

Does your iPhone support the version of iOS that the app requires for the type of payments you want to make or receive?

If your iPhone is not compatible with iOS 17 or 18, there will not be an iOS 17 or 18 update for it, just because UPI payments now require iOS 17 or higher. You may have to choose between getting a newer phone … or not being able to make or receive such payments.
