Why is my compound clip grey and its contents are gone

Working on a timeline all was fine yesterday but continuing today one of my compound clips has gone rogue. The default thumbnail for it is grey (no I haven’t accidentally pressed ‘V’) and when I enter it is shows the markers but the two clips and the adjustment layer that was there are gone. The clips still exist in the library soon confused what’s happened???

I’ve done the following:

stopped back ground render.

deleted all render files.

restarted and reset prefs to default.

Checked it’s not disabled.

is this a bug??

Latest versions of OS and FCP running on a 1Tb M3 Max 36gb Ram.

thanks in advance

martin.

This won't help you and I don't want to derail the thread but we experienced a very similar thing last week, with FCP 10.6.5 and MacOS 13.6.5. Upon opening the library on Friday, a dozen or so compound clips had empty clips where the footage should be. They still showed a clip name but were grey. Attempting a Find of the clip caused an error dialog. All library backups from Thursday had this issue, but we were able to recover one from Wednesday night. My theory is that FCP crashed early Thursday and the editor did not reset preferences so some sort of corruption caused the problem. Strangely, it did not exhibit any issues until opening the library Friday morning.

Did you experience any FCP crashes prior to the compounds going missing?

compound was basically the same clip edited then top one nudged along one frame at 50% opacity to remove a slight led flicker. An adjustment layer added on top for colour & exposure balance.
audio was edited also. saved as a compound clip.

Try creating a composite clip with the same process in a new library. Will it turn gray?

If it's not gray: You can determine that your old library may have become corrupted somehow.
