Updating my iMac from macOS Catalina to Monterey, Stalls at “one minute remaining”.

Can you get it into Restore Mode, Option-⌘-R

Upgrade to the latest macOS compatible with your Mac.

Look at top of screen for Utilities menu...

In Disk Utility>View, select Show all Devices, highlight the top left entry.

Run Disk First Aid on all items in the left panel, from top down.

Safe Mode would have disabled some of the Third Party Applications installed and running on this computer

It would have also loaded, only the Basic Elements , of the then existing version of macOS 10.15 Catalina

Yes, it is reported there are 500 GB of available space but Available and Empty are not one and the same

The reported , " install process again so I have to wait another 30-40 minutes to watch it get stuck " trends to point to some Third Party Security Software installed and running in the background

This Unknown Software is impeding and blocking the installation process to run to a successful upgrade to Monterey
