Magic Trackpad will not scroll - everything else is OK

I have a brand new MacPro and I added a Magic trackpad. All is working except that it wont do a two finger scroll, I have:
1. Installed the update
2. Checked software updater
3. Checked Preference panel and activated 2 finger scrolling
4. Deactivated and repaired trackpad
5. deleted system pane preference file
6. Tried to install on another Mac (it can't be recognised, stays paired, even when computer is shut down)

It appeared to work at one stage for about 5 seconds… although maybe I was just wishing?

Any ideas?

Yep,
I have tried it in many scrollable windows including Safari, ensuring the cursor is within the scrolling area.

Scrolling is enabled in System Preference. I have toggled on/off, and with inertia enabled and without.

I have a magic mouse that scrolls just fine. Disabling it makes no difference - there are no other input devices other than a keyboard.

The Control + two finger scroll produces zooming!

I've have used Macs since 1985 and have worked in an Apple Centre for 5 years (15 years ago), I have 6 Macs in the house.... I'm still stumped. Ideas welcomed

UPDATE:

I tried to install on my MBP. At first it found no trackpad. Then it had an unidentified device with an address that were all "0"s.

I reset the battery and it found it and worked, and scrolled on the MBP.

Back to the MacPro, ditched prefs, deleted pairing and started again. Again "not found" followed by an unidentified bluetooth device with 0's address. Reset batteries and found it. It now works intermittently. The scrolling worked for 15 seconds but stopped. Now the trackpad System Preference Pane does not show the on screen options or tutorial images - GONE!

I GIVE UP.

Safeboot failed as keyboard and mouse were disabled and unable to log in (ironically the only I/O device that responded was the trackpad).

Reinstalling the OS recovered my corrupted System Preferences panels, but alas no trackpad scrolling.

Installed Trackpad on my old MacPro and it works!

This is frustrating but I have wasted many hours on this

Im in the same boat now. When I first setup my trackpad on thursday (3 days ago) it worked perfectly and then suddenly today it will only do simple functions like move the curser and single click function but Im unable to change the tracking speed or add gestures. Confirmed its paired but for some reason when I click on the "setup blue tooth magic track pad" within the trackpad preference pane it cannot find the trackpad. I then tried using it with my wifes 1 day old MBP and it worked perfectly, unpaired it and tried to reconnect to my MBP and still the same issues. reinstalled OS and reinstalled all the new updates but no better. Spoke with apple tech support for over an hour and they had me create a new user account and see if it worked in that users account and it did! until I rebooted. Then I tried deleting the system prefs etc and still nothing. very stumped

SOLVED! I couldn't help but notice that a third party program "USB Overdrive" that I have was trying to control the trackpad. Once I removed USB Overdrive and rebooted the trackpad came back to life. I did a quick search and found others who discovered this before I did and it all came down the USB overdrive. You must remove USB Overdrive using its own un install option in pref pane to get all kernal data removed. Hope this helps someone.
