How stop Microsoft Edge from taking over Safari searches?

Does anyone know how to stop Microsoft Edge from taking over all searches? Safari is my default browser. I've never installed Microsoft Edge, and it doesn't shows anywhere in Finder. However, when I try to search with Safari, especially for current news items, Microsfoft Edge invades and takes over. Even if I click on a different answer or site, I'm taken to a Microsoft Edge page that supposedly answers my question. Microsoft Edge doesn't work properly on my Mac Mini, and is unable to scroll smoothly, so I can't even read the "information" it supplies. And I can't get to answers I could read because Microsoft Edge seems to block those.

Does anyone know how to stop Microsoft Edge from invading, taking over any search I do, and blocking other answers to the search? I'd like to block it from ever accessing/appearing on my computer. My opinion of Microsoft is now at "bottom of the basement" level.

Hi. I surely appreciate your taking time to answer, although I may be too ignorant to benefit from your help. I read the post you recommended and took the three screenshots. Unfortunately, I have no idea which files are the problem and no idea how to remove them. (Highlight and click delete, or is there a more complicated process?) If you can give me further instructions, that will be wonderful; if not, I still appreciate your taking the time to answer. I labeled the shots, but the names aren't showing. The first one is ~/Library/LaunchAgents

The second is: /Library/LaunchDaemons

The last is /Library/LaunchAgents

Hi John,

Thank you again. It was very kind of you to take the time to post these answers. However, I'm not going to continue. I don't have your level of computer sophistication, so making changes to hidden files is a very nervous business for me, and I also disagree with you about Intego. It's saved me several times, and I especially want to keep it now that Apple has become so lax in their security, leaving vulnerabilities unpatched--often even acknowledged--for months at a time. But again, THANK YOU for taking time to respond. That was very kind, and our world certainly needs kindness these days. Best wishes to you.

The decision is yours of course, but I believe you have allowed yourself to become misled. That's understandable because there are entrenched, multi-billion dollar moneyed interests in promoting fear and fomenting discord so that the enormous customer base of Mac users can be deceived into drawing that same conclusion.

Meanwhile, there are no lobbyists agitators or influencers who will say don't buy this or that product, or don't install something, like I just did. There is nothing in it for them. No compensation, no reward, nothing. It's a rigged system.

In the particular case of "Intego" yes I have used that product and quantitatively evaluated its performance. It's among the worst in a vast field of utter garbage. Do you really think some trade publication or "news" outlet is going to tell you that?

Removing non-Apple "anti-virus" junk is the first step in fixing a misbehaving Mac. Often, it's the only step. When presented with an ailing Mac, I won't even begin to think about what's wrong until it's been removed.
