mail program will not sign into my hotmail account

When I try to access my hotmail in mail it asks me to sign in each time, and when I enter the (correct) password it responds 'Unable to verify account name or password'

I've tried all the usual things: clearing browser history, rebooting, etc., but no luck so far.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unable to verify account name or password when accessing Hotmail mailbox on MacBook Pro I got the error when I tried to open my Hotmail mailbox in Apple Mail on my MacBook Pro. I could open my emails in Microsoft Outlook just fine, so the account name and password were correct. I tried deleting the Hotmail mailbox and Account in Apple Mail then tried to add the account back several times. I still got the error. I solved the problem by adding the account again and choosing "Exchange" for the internet account to use for Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Messages and other apps. Now my hotmail account is back in Apple Mail and working correctly. Hope this helps someone else.
