You can only upgrade a MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2013) as far as Big Sur. Microsoft has a policy of supporting only the most three recent major versions of macOS – and Big Sur isn't one of them.
Big Sur is enough to run the current version of the LibreOffice office suite.
I believe it is also enough to run the current version of Firefox. Having an updated Web browser might allow you to use the Web-based Microsoft 365 applications, and might be useful even if you did not want to use them.

Macbooks in general can run Office 365.
Your particular model of Mac is a bit too old to run the current versions of Office 365.
You'll probably need to find Office 2019 for Mac if you want Office apps.
Alternatively *** mentioned you can try running LibreOffice.

Here are the Mac requirements for running Microsoft 365 and Office.
That machine is too old to run any currently supported Microsoft 365 apps. Unfortunately, it is so old that you probably also won’t be able to use the web based MS 365 apps.
