Hotmail account on iMac not working

My hotmail account on Mac Mail is no longer connecting to the server, so I am unable to send or receive messages. I've removed the hotmail account and tried to add it again, but it keeps saying "unable to verify account name or password". Any suggestions to overcome this issue would be appreciated.

iMac 21.5″, macOS 13.6

Thanks for your responses, however I have managed to get it working (for now, at least). After removing the account, I added the account again by choosing "Microsoft Exchange" instead of "Other Mail Account...", and this route appears to have worked! Fingers crossed that this is the problem solved.

Those server issues with Hotmail are something we regularly see and are a nuisance. I don't know of any one solution and it may just get worse in about a month when Microsoft implements new security protocols.


If you are desperate to read your email I find that logging in with a web browser almost always works.
