Mail does not spell check email.

I've followed EDIT, SPELLING AND GRAMMAR, and variously checked now, before sending, check and not check grammar, auto correct off and on, but to no avail. The "system" will not spell check. I do not use or have installed Grammerly.... this was in previous posts on this issue. I just use Apple mail, and I am on a MacBook pro, M1 Pro chip, 14 inch running Sonoma 14.5.

Also, when I check spell check now, it get this pop up, but no matter that array of letters I type, none appear as being misspelled.
