What do I do if iPhone screen is black and won't turn on?

My daughter’s iPhone 13 mini has a black screen but the phone is actually on. I have tried rebooting which is how I can tell the phone is on (I can feel the vibrations) but I don’t see the Apple symbol when trying to reboot. How can I get the phone to turn back on?

Hello!

If your iPhone has a frozen screen, doesn't respond when you touch it, or becomes stuck when you turn it on, learn what to do:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume up button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume down button.
  3. Press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo (this takes around 10 seconds).

  1. If your iPhone doesn't turn on, charge your iPhone for one hour and then try again. If your iPhone shows a low-charge battery check your hardware and charge your iPhone again.

Some more troubleshooting steps are in this helpful guide from Apple if what I mentioned does not work: If your iPhone won't turn on or is frozen - Apple Support.

If your iPhone turns on, but gets stuck during start up, you can also follow this video guide.

Perform a Forced Restart on the phone. Follow the instructions very carefully, as this is a bit tricky. You may need to repeat this several times.

Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

There are only 2 possible results when you perform a Forced Restart:

1) The phone returns to normal operation

Or, if the phone is still acting up.......

2) There is a hardware problem with the phone that will need attention at the Apple Store (make an appointment) or take the phone to an authorized Apple Service shop.

You can find a list of authorized service shops in your area using the link just below:

Hello~ Try it this way from an excellent prior post by *Axel Foley*…

“Try and Force Restart your iPhone EXACTLY as shown below and see whether that resolves the issue:

  • Press and quickly release Volume UP button
  • Press and quickly release Volume DOWN button
  • Press and Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears and then release the Side button (Can take up to 20 seconds. (DO NOT release Side Button when invited to Slide Power OFF).”
