Apps that cannot be viewed in landscape

I find it frustrating that there are so many apps designed to only be viewed in portrait mode.

I am disabled paralysed from the shoulders down so I'm therefore unable to pick up my iPad rotate it by myself. Therefore I have to have someone turn my iPad around for me or more commonly I try and read or use the app from a 90° angle. This obviously takes a lot longer and is rather painful and uncomfortable on my neck!

In most cases it would just mean simply scrolling up and down further with some vertical blank spaces on the side. There are some apps that will automatically detect the orientation of your device that will rotate the image accordingly but unfortunately the majority do not.

Is it the responsibility of the app developer to enable this feature ? Should it be a feature in iOS to view every in landscape orientation? Should Apple vet every app to see if it works in landscape mode before publishing it within the App Store? Is this an accessibility issue?

Your thoughts and comments would be most welcome.

Thank you

I certainly don't think there should be a stipulation that all apps must work in landscape mode but making them aware not everyone can use portrait mode might urge them to think about enabling both orientations.

I accept it's not always possible I believe it has just been an oversight developers do not always consider people with disabilities who use accessibility features.

You should contact the developers of the apps that don't do what you need them to do. Let them know what you're asking and why.
