Why is iCloud's download speed so incredibly slow?

Downloading anything from iCloud, specifically photos and videos, is very slow and makes taking photos and videos off of iCloud and onto any other drive on my computer, such as a mass storage device, a huge pain. Is there any way to download photos off of iCloud faster? Right now it seems to download them at about 2 MB/sec.

I select a few hundred at time, select "Always keep on this on this device" and then wait a looong time. Photos iCloud sync is extremely slow and looks like its throttled server side Hi! I'm trying to transition from Google Photos to iCloud+ with 110K photos and videos (1.5TB). Currently in the process of downloading from Google and uploading from my Macbook. I have 1000/1000mbps fiber internet, wired. Google drive, Onedrive and internet uploads are all blazing fast. I've shut down most uploading apps and recorded activity while Photos was syncing. This looks like a throttled upload were iCloud is only letting a few files through per minute. I've done a rough calculation with this speed and it would take me 13 days (24hr) of uploading. Raw data upload would take around 5 hours. I get that having individual files, registration and metadata processing takes a bit more but not 6000% more time. Anyone has experience/tips on how to upload large amounts of photos and videos to iCloud?

I'm trying to download some 8,000 photos and movies and it's taken nearly a week so far to download ~3000.

That depends of your internet 🛜 speed no the iCloud and if you are downloading multiple photos in one shot that makes more slow the downloading speed

My internet speed is not it, because other cloud services like OneDrive download at a regular speed, and if I download one photo/video instead of multiple, it is still slow.
