Noise Cancellation on new Airpods is subpar

Does anyone have any experience with noise cancelling being subpar on the newer airpod pros? Any solutions? Or is it just how it is?

I had the first generation Airpod Pros. They were great. Went through the washer a few times but stayed strong for a long time. They finally started wearing out but got 3 years out of them or so. Bought the new generation ones just a couple months ago.

I'm a drummer. I use Pros to protect my hearing with noise cancellation. The old ones worked fantastic for this. The new ones... Suck.

High pitch noises come through the headphones and almost seem amplified (likely cuz everything else is quieter. But it's a huge turn-off and I'm thinking of just selling/returning these and getting some bose or something better.

Any tips?!
