Speak with your Administrative Assistant. If a techie, then they'll have some ideas.

Whatever you buy, ensure that you have plenty of storage (not just for class work but also to store all the pictures/memories). Generally a solid, middle of the road (specs wise) will last you for all four years. And, be sure to buy a separate drive as a backup to use with Time Machine (or similar). That drive should be at least twice the size of your Mac.
