Epson driver 12.62 fails to install on OS 14.6.1

I am hoping someone else out there can provide me with a definite explanation/ solution or perhaps at least replicate the problem...

I am running Mac OS 14.6.1 on a MB Pro M3. I have an Epson SC-P800 Printer. The printer will work on the generic Apple driver 3.0, but this has very limited function and options compared to the Epson driver. I have gone to the Epson support site and downloaded the current driver they say is for this printer, version 12.62.

It downloads but will fail to install. I have spent 3 days with Epson support (email) and also a live phone support session with no solution. The phone support tech admitted he did not have a mac with OS 14.6 so he could not replicate the problem, and was simply using a cookbook for possible solutions. I have asked him to escalate the issue to engineering, suggesting this may be a "bug" and needs to be addressed with an updated driver. But I do not feel confident Epson will act on this. I would appreciate any thoughts on this.

Solution found. 24 emails with a nice software guy in Germany. Zero help from Epson support.

When I migrated from my old macbook pro to the new one (M3) the EPSONUSBPrintClass.kext file was corrupted.

It needed to be deleted using Terminal which was a major pain because OS 14.6.1 has lots of security even if you are logged in as admin. After finally deleting the bad file, I was able to download the driver from Epson and it successfully installed. Next, you must go into system preferences>Printers & Scanners and add the printer, but this time be sure to select the correct driver software to use instead of Apple's Airprint 3.0. Article for that process here:

I cannot provide instruction on the deletion of the bad .kext file because it may be different for your OS. In any case before you resort to the Terminal deletion stuff, first try to see if just following the article gives you back your proper driver.

Also here is another article re the selection of the proper driver:

The Manufacture ( Epson ) and Developer ( Epson ) has had plenty of time to develop a drive that would function on MacOS 14 Sonoma

Manufactures have option way before a newer version of macOS is released to Develop and Test there software, drivers against Sonoma released on Sept 26, 2023

So yes, you do have reason to " do not feel confident Epson will act on this "

It is even possible they may have abandoned developing functional drives for this Printer and have since been Test ing Drivers for the successor to Sonoma namely macOS Sequoia Preview

At least, as you have written

" The printer will work on the generic Apple driver 3.0, but this has very limited function and options compared to the Epson driver "
