macOS Sonoma "Family" app persistent store service log entries (sandbox)
I've had an issue for over a year where the Family app would generate around 8 faults per second with messages such as:
fault 22:02:23.227895+0100 imagent CoreData: Unable to create token NSXPCConnection. NSXPCStoreServerEndpointFactory 0x7fc1360668c0 -newEndpoint returned nil
fault 21:59:51.015245+0100 searchpartyuseragent CoreData: Unable to create token NSXPCConnection. NSXPCStoreServerEndpointFactory 0x7f9420c178e0 -newEndpoint returned nil
Family: CoreData: Unable to create token NSXPCConnection
SearchPartyUserAgent: Unable to create token NSXPCConnection
The problem started after I wiped my MacOS system.
Symptoms: Severe performance degradation; applications like Excel take 30-60 seconds to open, and Safari frequently hangs. This makes my 2021 MacBook Pro perform worse than my older 2014 model.
Community Findings: Many users report similar issues online, but no definitive solution has been widely acknowledged.
Steps Taken:
- Visited Apple stores and searched forums with no success.
- Engaged with Apple support in both the US and UK, involving escalations to iCloud, iTunes, and Apple ID teams, even undergoing account regenerations over a year, yet the issue persisted.
Breakthrough: During a visit to the US, a friend who is an Apple developer took interest in the problem.
In Xcode, navigate to Settings > Accounts, click the '+' icon, and log in with the Apple ID originally used to download Xcode. After waiting about 30 seconds, the performance issues were resolved.
- This fix restored my MacBook's performance, suggesting a significant oversight in Apple's troubleshooting for this issue. The suggestion of hardware failure (bad logic board) was incorrect.
- I hope this solution helps others experiencing similar crippling performance issues on their Macs. Apple should address this problem more effectively in their support protocols.
