How do I login as a different user on my MacBook login screen?

This problem starts after a certain amount of time has passed when me and my wife are both logged in. I cannot log into my account when both accounts are locked. I click on my user name and it just goes back to my wife login since she was the last user who logged in. This is very frustrating and the only solution is to perform a hard reboot. Has anyone seen this issue?

The Sonoma login screen is a bit temperamental. I find sometimes clicking on the icon will cause problems. I think all you may need to do is hover over the default login icon in order to get access to the other login options. I don't recall if you just hover over the other username whether it will highlight & bring it forware....if so, then just enter the password.

You may want to consider changing the login screen options from displaying login names with requiring you to manually enter the user name & password. It is a bit more work, but it may prove more reliable at least until the issue is resolved.

FYI, I have noticed from time to time with macOS Sonoma that the login screen will refuse to allow the password to be entered which does require the computer to be forced power off. Mainly I've notice this occur with a clean install of macOS on the first boot or two.

The current stable release of Sonoma including bug fixes, security updates is macOS 14.6.1 - I would start there.
