iTunes store download using AIFF

Can you set preferences to download songs from the iTunes store to AIFF or not? I'd like to download an album to the highest quality possible. I know this means it will take more storage on my computer.

You can do so at online music download stores other than iTunes. Many stores sell songs in lossless (CD-quality) formats, usually FLAC or WAV. There are even a few that sell better-than-CD quality, using 96/24 or 5.1, such as hdtracks.com. Shop around.

No.

"Tunes Plus downloads are songs and music videos available in our highest quality 256 kbps AAC audio encoding (twice the audio quality of protected music purchases), and without digital rights management (DRM). iTunes Plus music can be burned to CD as many times as you need, synced to any AAC-enabled device (such as iPod, iPhone, or Apple TV), and played on any Mac or Windows computers you own."
