If you have not already, DO NOT UPDATE TO 17.6.1 for your iPhone!

I have been working with Apple to help solve the MULTIPLE problems and there will be a fix version i.e. 17.6.2 or 3 or 4 issued at about 12pm EST on Friday the  16th.

So, you will get your current 17.6.1  problems resolved with this update or if you haven't reached that point; update your iPhone to the new version ( not ending in the number 1 ) on Saturday.

This dot 1 version of 17.6 was a precursor or tester for iOS 18, and I am not happy with being a test subject and neither should you, which will be released next month on new and existing iPhones.

It takes a lot of pressure to get an Apple confession; but, here it is!

I updated my 15 Pro to 17.6.1 about a week ago. I started to notice some things. It started with videos on Facebook, X, and Instagram being glitchy and buffering. I originally thought it was my connection. Turns out it was not my Wi-Fi or connections at all. I could replicate the issues at various locations.

My issues are:

  • any video (downloaded, photos, or social media) do not play.
  • music does not play
  • videos online also do not play/ We tried the YouTube and Apple webpages; nothing worked.
  • I can make and connect a phone call. That call does not have any audio. Facetime calls also do not connect.
  • My battery was hot while charging in my car on Saturday.

After several hours on Saturday with Apple support (first text chat, then phone support), I was left with a phone phone that didn't work well. Apple phone support tried to reset to factory settings from a computer on Saturday (connected via cable). That reset failed. I then scheduled in-person support though the Apple Support app at a local Best Buy. Best Buy ran all the same diagnostics that the Phone Support did the day before; found nothing. Best Buy hard reset my phone to factory new; same issues (no video or calls). Later on Sunday afternoon, I reopened my case and spoke to a Apple Support Manager for 2.5 hours. She ran diagnostics, attempted to reset the phone again, and tried everything possible. The phone was still quirky with the same issues. She did say that "maybe it's Verizon" and I should speak to the also. The Apple Support Manager ended the call with sending report logs to Apple Engineering to review. The Engineering review could take 3-5 days. Grrr.

I did call Verizon and review all the settings. My Verizon settings were all perfectly fine.

Now I wait for several days until Apple Support gets the Engineering review of my phone's issues.

I’m having problem with slow speed too, especially all videos are loading for few seconds, not only in gallery app, but on other apps too, and no it’s not icloud, also face id is not recognising my face right away, or when i pick up my phone and look at the camera it won’t unlock and i have to type passcode, sometimes it unlocks when keyboard show up but not always. Also with logging in account, it takes a while. In my case maximum capacity of battery is the same, but it is draining quicker than before. Idk what is this

Sadly my phone auto updated over night two days ago and it’s been awful. Battery drains so fast now.

Apps are glitchy and slow.

the update just deleted a whole folder from my Home Screen.

this folder included safari and chrome and other apps I use all the time… these apps are no longer on my Home Screen… on any window.

i have to go to the search bar to access them.

My iPhone 14 auto-updated to iOS 17.6.1 on September 3, and now my phone will no longer communicate with my Telus SmartHome security system. I've described this in more detail in another post. The update "not ending in the number 1" has not yet appeared. I contacted Apple, and was told I would have to take this up with the app developer. I've tried, but have been unable to connect meaningfully with Telus Communications Inc.

Just to let you and others know, I succeeded in contacting Telus Communications Inc., and they seemed to indicate that they are (or will be soon) in the process of updating the Telus SmartHome app (current version 5.2.6) to improve its compatibility with the latest iOS version (17.6.1 or later). Hopefully this will restore the ability to communicate via this app on my iPhone 14 with the SmartHome security panel.
