Watch OS 10.6 (21U577) broke wrist detection, heart rate, and exercise tracking

Immediately upon the latest OS update being applied all of apps I use for tracking exercise have stopped working on my Apple Watch SE (model MKRR3LL/A). I have tried all of the articles I can find to ensure the wrist detection is on, location services is properly enabled, I've cleaned it, unpaired and re-paired it, reset it, etc. I've changed the orientation, moving it from one wrist and back to the other. I've tried recalibrating by going for a 30 minute walk on flat roads with my phone in the same hand. The watch will not active with wrist detection, it will not give me any exercise credit for standing or moving, nor will it measure my heart rate.

None of the articles I've found have resolved even one issue.

Is there any resolution, and is this a known issue with this latest OS update?

Apple Watch SE, watchOS 10

Zachyy, thank you for your response. I had tried everything you listed, some multiple times. I had shutdown and restarted the watch more than once following the Settings > General > Shutdown path. The only thing I hadn't done was the forced restart by holding down the side button and Digital Crown. That seems to have resolved the issue. The Wrist Detection works, the Heart app is registering my pulse, and I am getting credit for the exercises I've done. So that was the trick.

Thanks again!

Sorry to hear your having all these issues, lets try debugging a few things.

  • To restart your Apple Watch, hold on the side button until you are prompted with the power off button, click and power off.

  • Try resetting your paired iPhone, hold on a button and the power button, till you are prompted with the power off, then power off.

  • If none of those fix your issues, lets force reset your Apple Watch. To force restart, hold down the side button and the Digital Crown at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
