Sony HDR-XR550

Hey all, I did a forum search on this camera model and couldn't find any info.

I just bought a Sony HDR-XR550 and took some video that is in .MTS format. I have hooked it up to my University's Mac and selected the USB connect on the camera and opened up FCP 6.0.6 and tried to import my video but it says it wont do anything. FCP doesn't seem to recognise any of the files as video files.

I have seen a bunch of other threads dealing with similar issues but none helped me, anyone familiar with this model camera have any ideas?

You need to use Log and Transfer, not Log and Capture or import.
Connect the camera via the USB cable, open FCP and under the menu File > Log and Transfer.

All your clips on the camera must be HD in format and usually all the same flavor of HD to work.

If you have problems using Log and Transfer try going to the little gear at the upper center of the L&T window and set the preferences:

Set the Prefs for AVCHD transfer to Plain Stereo.

Then try and ingest your material again.

This did not seem to work. I have deleted everything off my camera and taken a short video to ensure that it is the only thing on the camera. When I plug the camera in via USB I get a No Name icon on the desktop and I can navigate the AVCHD - BDMV - STREAM and see my 1 video.

I then open FCP and go to log and transfer and nothing happens, I change the sound option you recommended and still nothing happens.

Anyone else have any ideas?

What happens when you click the Add Volume button in log and transfer and select the top level of NO NAME?

I can only see an 'add folder' button and adding any level from 'no name' down to the folder actually containing the video gives me the error message '"NO NAME" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.'
