Some images are accepted, some are not
MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 14.6
Do the ones not accepted open in Preview? If not, they could be corrupted. If so, try re-saving them from Preview.

Great suggestion and more interesting than I thought. JPG re-save did nothing. HEIC and PNG formats, however, worked beautifully. I would not have tried that, had it not been for your suggestion on file corruption. Many thanks!
Are all the pics the same format; png, jpg, tiff, etc.?
All jpg, and all accepted on MacBook Pro 14 M1 running earlier versions of Sonoma. Updating hardware to MBP Max 16 M3 and Sonoma to 14.5, later 14.6 seems to have changed things. Some work, some not.
They do. I will give re-saving a go.
