Photoshop Deletion-Reinstall / iMac 2023 M3 14.6.1

I used migration assistant to transfer from one Mac to a new iMac . After doing so I found Adobe says not to use migration assistant for Photoshop. If you have used the MA you need to use a downloaded tool from Adobe called Creative Cloud Cleaner and use it to uninstall. They make it sound very complicated. The new iMac under applications has an un-install feature for all of the Adobe Photoshop apps I have. Can't I just use the Uninstall feature in Applications? Its right there in black and white.

I am also getting a message saying to use/open Photoshop I need to install Rosetta (enables intel based features to run on Apple Silicon Macs). Is Rosetta safe?

I know this is more of an Adobe question but the tech support is terrible and I am hoping one of you geniuses might have an answer.

Many Thanks

iMac (M3, 2023)

Follow the steps Adobe stated, don't go off on a tangent. If you get stuck, contact Adobe Support for assistance!!!

Rosetta is safe however Adobe apps can be VERY finicky which is why you need to follow Adobe's direction and not try to second guess their engineering staff. Yes, I know their support is poor however if you don't like working with them there are MANY alternatives available these days so you don't need to feel trapped, assuming that is what you may be feeling. It just takes some research and willingness to change if that is what you decide.

Try to run the Creative Cloud Cleaner. When you are prompted to install Rosetta, click Install. That's all you should have to do.

Rosetta is a very small utility from Apple. Its purpose is to enable Intel-based apps to run on Apple Silicon. It will not be removed after installation. It will be invisible and you will never run it by itself. There is no need to be concerned about it remaining on your Mac.

You can certainly use the uninstaller for Photoshop. But be aware that the uninstaller leaves some things behind, which can cause issues when you try to reinstall Photoshop later. That's why it's better to use the Creative Cloud Cleaner app. It is more thorough, especially if you intend to reinstall Photoshop or other Creative Cloud apps later.

How to install Rosetta

Rosetta 2 is available only for Mac computers with Apple silicon.

  1. Make sure that your Mac is connected to the internet.
  2. Open any app that needs Rosetta. If the app opens, Rosetta is already installed and working.
  3. If Rosetta is not installed, you're automatically asked to install it.

  4. Click Install, then enter your user name and password to allow installation to proceed. If you click Not Now, you will be asked again the next time you open an app that needs Rosetta.

But what version did you get?

CCC 6 and 7 both run natively on Intel and Apple Silicon Macs, no needfor Resetta.

Apologies for the numerous questions. I am recovering from a difficult open heart surgery and had a stroke during the surgery. The brain is not quite up to par.

My question, I downloaded the CCC but in order to open it, it prompts me to download Rosetta. I cant open PS either as I get the same Rosetta prompt.

It obvious that in order for me to continue this migration and re-install I will need to install Rosetta.

Once I am able to run the CCC will Rosetta go away as I understand (I think) that I do not need it per your response.

Additionally, My wife has somewhere in the range of 200 brushes and actions. How do I get these into the new Photoshop on the new iMac.

This Migration is much more intensive that I expected as all of her other applications came across fine but the Adobe is going to put me back in the ER.

Thank you for sharing your expertise.
