I am Italian, can I give an Apple gift card to a friend from USA? I would make the purchase with my Italian credit card.

No, Apple Gift Cards must be used in their country or region of purchase. In other words an Italian Apple Gift Card will not work in the US.

I suspect it has to do with the currency conversion and taxes. Under international monetary laws the conversion might be construed as a form of money laundering. Not sure and I haven’t looked into the issue.
