If by "adapter" you mean keep it plugged into power, yes you can. Keeping the computer plugged in will not damage the computer or the battery. The MacOS manages the power/charging system very well. Keeoing it plugged in reduces the rate of accumulation of battery cycles.

Yes, you can use a MacBook Air continuously connected to power, though there can be other choices useful for that particular configuration, such as a Mac mini.
Battery health doesn’t increase, and all batteries will inevitably and inexorably degrade and fail.

Make sure you set “Optimized” charging, so that the Mac learns it is never coming off the power adapter and keeps the battery charged to 80%, to avoid battery swelling and warping the case.
At work, they provide all the employees with either a Windows or Mac laptop.
BEFORE “Optimized” charging we had a lot of Mac users, that kept their Mac laptops plugged in 24/7, have their battery swell up, warp the case, press against the keyboard and trackpad causing malfunctions. This tended to happen during the 3rd year.
My company Mac laptop had its battery, keyboard and Trackpad replaced at the 2.5 year mark because of battery swelling.
In the attached picture notice the Mac does not sit flat in the surface, and the lid does not close correctly because of battery swelling.
Please make sure “Optimized” charging is set in the Battery System Settings.

"On Mac computers with Apple silicon or the T2 security chip, Optimized Battery Charging is on by default when you set up your Mac or after updating to macOS Big Sur or later."
