Is there a way to prevent FCPX from moving to the new event whenever I move a file?

Nope, it's how FCP works, and drives me insane. If I have Event A highlighted, and drag Clip 3 to a different Event, once done, I should still be looking at Event A. Instead, I'm in some random Event and have to find my way back to something relevant to what I'm doing. Drives me insane.

It looks like you are trying to organize your already imported media into events.

If you are going through an extensive event and checking the clips, so you then may move some to, say, event A, and others to event B: you can assign appropriate keywords instead. This can be done with keyboard shortcuts to make it even faster. Then it will be a matter of opening the keyword collection A and move everything to event A at once, etc.

Note for the future: you may prefer to organize media in Finder before importing. This way, you can use folders ss keyword collections directly at import.

Apple laptops can run in Clamshell Mode (closed) and use an external monitor, plus USB or Bluetooth keyboards, mice, and trackpads. So Bluetooth has to run when closed. I run my in Clamshell Mode, and if Bluetooth wasn't running, I'd be screwed.

We have to agree to (very strongly) disagree on this. Yes, FCP has great organization tools but events are akin to folders in Finder, and it is immensely easier to do that part of the organization in Finder. Just navigating among a thousand clips in one event in FCP is a total nightmare. In Finder you can have multiple windows open, and easily drag stuff without losing track of where you are.

You already have the clips imported into one mega event, right?

Add keywords corresponding to the events you want to move the clips to, let's say A, B, C, and D.

Using the keyword editor, you can have it so that A is associated with Control-1, B with Control-2, and so on.

As you go through each clip, and decide it should be in event A, press X to select the whole clip and then Control-1; and so on.

You can in the end (or really at any time) select the A keyword collection, select all the clips in there, and drag them to event A. Same for other events.

I'm not sure what you mean here:

"Every time I move a project, file, or event, FCPX moves to the new location"

Can you describe more clearly and/or include screenshots of what you're seeing?
