Should I pay off Apple Card balance before deleting my old Apple ID?

Okay so I made a new apple ID and I want to delete my old one but my old one has an Apple Card attached to it. I know I probably can’t move that card to my new account so what should i do? The card has a balance on it so I’m just not sure what my next steps should be

Do I just have to pay the remaining balance off then close the account?

Apple Card is forever tied to the Apple ID Account you used when you applied for an Apple Card Mastercard account. The correct way to fix the situation is to change the email used with your >>old Apple ID<<. Not create a new Apple ID.

Please follow the support article I’ve linked below and follow the instructions for changing/updating your email. Please note. This is not the same as creating a new Apple ID.
