battery health issues

I'm using my MacBook Air m1 plugged in most of the time after purchasing. But, after 23-25 days later the 'optimise battery charging' is frequently kicking in.Whenever my Mac is at 100% it reduce to 80% and at before sleeping it charge to 100% again. And it's happening everyday, isn't it increasing the charging cycle of the battery thus reduce the battery health??

Lithium Batteries can degrade if they are left at 100% charge for too long which is why macOS now defaults to Optimized Charging so those people who leave their laptops connected to the power adapter for long periods of time can have their battery exercised to keep them healthy.

FYI, age is another factor in battery health which is often overlooked. Most Lithium Batteries begin needing to be replaced between 3 - 5 years anyway.

I turned off Optimized Charging for myself since I may need to suddenly run with the laptop and would like it to be at 100% charge (I have unpredictable usage). Since I have disabled this setting, it is up to me to manually exercise the battery.

Don't overthink it. Let the algorithms Apple has designed do what they are supposed to do. You're still using fewer charge cycles by leaving it plugged in and letting it do its thing periodically.

It is adding cycles to your battery by doing this, however, it is good for the battery to occasionally charge fully. Your battery eventually wont even be able to hold a charge if you never unplugged it and used it as it was intended to be.

Laptops were not intended to sit on a desk for their entire lifetime. They were designed to be able to be picked up and taken places.

Like someone else said, your battery will need replaced some years down the line anyways so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Use it however you want and don't stress about the cycles.
