On my previous iMac, I was able to connect my headphones via the 3.5mm jack. However, my new iMac only has USB-C ports. Is there a way to route the sound output through the USB ports?

Following your suggestion, I bought a USB-C audio interface, and now I can indeed route the audio output through that device to my headphones. Thanks for the tip.

Thank you for your response. I actually tried both a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter and a USB-C to Lightning adapter (I should have mentioned this in my original post). Unfortunately, neither of them worked.
Could it be that not all adapters are created equal?
