Why are my desktop files unresponsive on my MacBook Air?

I have an old MacBook, all software uptodate, when clicking on desktop files/documents no response?? File won’t open up. It appears I have plenty of memory

MacOS fails with file operations on Desktop I cannot open, move, copy or delete any files in Desktop. I observed the same happens in Documents as well, but not in Downloads directory. I am suspecting that it may be a Cloud or OS related problem. Open and Save Dialogues crash upon trying to do the operations above. Clicking on files doesn't even launch the associated program.

MacBook Air M2 slow file access in apps Hello, My Macbook Air M2 8GB has recently gone incredibly slow when having to access my files in things like Chrome, Preview etc. A few examples of this where it takes a few seconds to navigate to file, open a file, change the name to save the file as etc: If I click 'Save Image As' in Chrome Pressing 'Upload Image/File' in Chrome Saving an image in Preview When I press 'Upload' on YouTube However, if I open finder normally I can navigate between folders as normal and everything shows up instantly. It only seems to occur when I try to open my folders/files via an app (Chrome, Preview, etc). I've uploaded this video showing the issue, hopefully it shows that it takes a while for each action to load where as usually it happens instantly. Try doing a restart in the Safe Mode. Press the Shift key on restart. The process can take some time as the Mac is repairing its operating system and cleaning its caches. Then try and see what happens. If its ok, then restart normally and retest.
