iphoto library not intact - somehow change to multiple folders

I travel the world on many different research expeditions and many photos. When I started I stored photos in iPhoto and originally could add descriptive "sidecar" information. iPhoto changed and lost my sidecar data. Because iPhoto/now Photos can only effectively manage relatively smaller libraries I opted to create new library folders and named them. So using iPhoto manager I could select which library I could view.

The problem is that some of those iphoto libraries changed to multiple folders containing I don't know what. They cannot be opened. Does anyone know what I need to do to reassemble those libraries so I can move them into a larger photo manager program?

Could you please confirm, that you are really still using iPhoto and not Photos for Mac?

I am asking, because iPhoto does no longer run on the system version macOS 14.6 given below your question.

Or are you still having older iPhoto Libraries, that you are now trying to open in Photo for Mac?

If you are still having iPhoto Libraries, it is too late now. The last version of macOS supporting iPhoto Libraries has been macOS 12 Monterey. Since macOS 13 Ventura we can only import items from iPhoto Libraries into an existing Photos Library, but no longer open iPhoto Libraries in Photos to convert them to Photos Libraries. We vcan access the photos and videos in an iPhoto Library by importing them, but the structure of the library is lost. We will no longer see the events, albums, folders. The keywords will also be lost, when we import items from iPhoto Libraries.

Do you have access to a Mac with an older system version as well? The last system version, where we could run iPhoto has been macOS 10.14 Mojave, and the system versions up to macOS 12 allowed us still to open iPhoto Libraries.
