What would be a compatible printer for my MacBook Air running Sierra?

Hi, Can any one help? My HP home printer has just died when I updated my router. I have spent hours and hours trying to fix but it has got corrupted apparently. I have a macOS Sierra 10.12.6 which is quite old now. Im worried that any printer wont be compatable now. I checked a few and it looks like they need 10.13 high Sierra. Does any one have any similar issues and information about this? Thanks Vic

There is nothing wrong with checking drivers, but you say this happened after updating your router, not your Mac computer...so what exactly did you update and what kind of router is it?

Depending on the relative ages of the printer and the router, I would check to see if the router says the printer is connected to your network, or not, first. If not, the question is why - which could be several things. For example, if your router update activated WPA3 security but the printer is too old and doesn't manage WPA2 fallback well, that could be the issue.

Anyway - the first question I have is whether or not the printer is on your network. The next one will be if it can be reached from your computer.
