I have a very long relatively unformatted manuuscrript which I'm working on—one long chapter at a time.
I've tried duplicating a chapter and then deleting the original text and copying and pasting new text into the "new" document which has all styles saved and then I can reformat the text in accordance with my styles.
But this is a very cumbersome way of operating.
Is there no way to just copy styles I've set up in one document to another???????
If you have two Pages documents open with differing text styles, you can select the content bearing a style in one document, select Format > Copy Style, and in the second document, choose Format > Paste style where you want that content deposited.

In theory yes, but posts don't always find their way to the right places so I always ask.
Templates?
Create a document and set it with the styles you prefer. Then save it as a Template. Use that template for any subsequent documents.
Might help if you tell us what app you're using for the job...
