Hey there, so I was using my laptop at work, brought it home, and all of a sudden, the left shift key doesn't work. I did nothing to my laptop, I take care of it extremely well, nothing was done to it at all, it just stopped working. I was quoted $611 USD for a worst case scenario.

When a tech goes to install the replacement part, they may discover signs of liquid damage which was not visible until the parts were removed. Even removing the Bottom Case to check for liquid damage is not entirely reliable since the liquid damage could be on the other side of the Logic Board. That is most likely why they quoted you a worst case scenario.
