Have you shutdown and restarted more than once since you updated 14.6.1
Log out, sleep, wake, restart or shut down your Mac
Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support
if no resolve—
A SafeBoot Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support will sort many anomalies
Does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled temporarily.
Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.
if you still have an issue—
try the User Diagnostics to test your Mac
Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac - Apple Support
There are at least a couple of threads about this issue:
Screen lock & fingerprint unlock are very… - Apple Community
After upgrade to Sonoma 14.6 Touch ID sto… - Apple Community
But unfortuantely there doesn't to be consistent resolution for people. Some says 14.6.1 fixed the issue for them but not others (me included). Anecdotally, the issue seems to mainly affect Macs that are managed via MDM.
