I would like to transfer my Apple Music library (650GB) to my new MacBook Pro by external hard drive. However, with iCloud sync ON; will it upload and duplicate the cloud library?
I understand I can download from cloud; but this will take too long.
Thanks for reply - if I copy with an external hard drive (which is better as is much faster due to huge file size over 600GB) - when it's on the new MacBook with Apple Music Sync ON - will iCloud download the same library over time or does it recognise the duplicates?

If you see Apple Music or iTunes Match and sync your library to the cloud, simply do the same on the new Mac. Otherwise, you'll need to copy over the library or run it from the external drive.
Provided that you’re using the same library, there would be no duplicates
