I have the MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro running on the latest Sonoma 14.4.1 and the connection to my external monitor via Thunderbolt keeps dropping. This is happening on and off only with that monitor all other screens or my ipad does not do that... It seems to detect the second monitor fine after a reboot but then it keeps happening again after 5 minutes... Any suggestions?

what make&model display?
To use a high resolution, high-color display over Thunderbolt, genuine Apple cables are limited to 0.8 meter length. Brand-X ThunderBolt cables are limited to 0.5 meters maximum.
Any transmit errors that occur will cause the display to lose its connection.
if you do NOT use 'displays have Separate spaces', can you confirm that feature is turned OFF (unchecked) in this:

Ah, you should be using ONLY the lead-in cable on the display and the adapter. That is not affected by the length restrictions.
Do you have any high-speed peripherals plugged into the display, like a drive?

exactly how is dropping the connection expressing itself? what are the minute symptoms you see?
are you mirroring the built-in display, or Extending the built-in display, or using " Displays have separate spaces" feature of Mission Control?
Did you set any other display to "Full screen" when this occurred?
I have a Apple 27" Thunderbolt Display Monitor MC914LL/A 2560x1440 A1790 USB-C and I'm using that extension as well...
it connects and disconnects erratically... sometimes, every 5 sec sometimes not for hours.
no mirroring, I need each screen to display different things and my mouse goes across... the menu bar moves from a screen to another sometimes and that is annoying too... but if I place my mouse on the big screen down the edge, the menu moves back on the big display.
I don't use Mission control or spaces..
no full screen... I have a lot of opened windows at the same time that I need to move...
I can't find Mission control under settings... I search and looked under display or wall paper... of control center... nothing that says "Mission Control" or "displays have separate spaces"... but I know my daugther is using that all the time on her computer... how come i don;t have that option?
wow, it has REALLY moved. Now serviced as part of Stage Manager.
Choose Apple menu > System Settings, click Desktop & Dock in the sidebar, then click Customize next to Stage Manager on the right.

If you don't see Stage Manager in Control Center
Choose Apple menu > System Settings, click Desktop & Dock in the sidebar, then scroll down on the right and make sure that “Displays have separate Spaces” is turned on. You should now see Stage Manager in Control Center.

Hello, thanks for helping... The cables are originals to the screen. There is 2 plugs (one for power and one that splits in 2 parts... then an adaptor to get into the laptop...
