Preview goes to dark mode on full screen

I have a new (to me) refurbished Macbook Pro running Sonoma.

I have all my settings on light mode.

In preview, the full screen mode turns that window to dark mode.

The colour on the background of my settings is turned to grey, but the entire program is in dark mode in full screen, no matter what file or monitor its on.

I've checked my display settings, accessibility and background colour.

This only happns on dark mode. The text is super difficult to see in the program but the file is bright white.

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 14.6

hmmm....

I would not put Preview in Full screen mode if that is your issue. Hold the Option key and select the green pill button for Zoom if necessary...

Preview>Settings>General>background color

if you want to drill down further on your issue—

To trouble shoot further you can:

—A SafeBoot Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

Does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled temporarily.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

This test will tell you if third party interference; most extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

—Test issue in another user (or guest user) account Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.

unplug all non-essential peripherals when testing

Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/VPN/Anti-Virus

all known to cause issues on the macOS
