There is no way to bypass the Activation Lock and you will need to provide the credentials used when the device was set up.

Here are your options depending on how your acquired the device:

  • If it is your device and you have the original purchase receipt from Apple or Authorized Apple seller, the lock can be removed.
  • If the device was set up with your Apple ID and you forgot the password, then you will need to reset the password. This will not be possible if the Apple ID is not yours.
  • If you purchased it from someone else, you will need their assistance to remove the lock. Without their assistance the device will never be able to be used.

If you bought this iPhone second-hand, and the owner parted with it willingly, you should ask them to prepare the phone for a new owner as outlined in

What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If you bought it second-hand and the seller has conveniently "disappeared", the phone will stay locked. Activation Lock is an anti-theft feature designed to make stolen and lost phones useless to thieves and anyone else to whom they might subsequently sell or transfer these phones.

Yep. If you did purchase the device used, then review this:

The All Too Common SAD Reality of Buying … - Apple Community

It is not unusual for stolen devices to show up on those Marketplace sites and once they find a buyer, the seller will suddenly disappear and there will be no way to contact them. The buyer is stuck with a phone that they will never be able to use. Legitimate sellers may have simply forgot to reset the device before selling and you will usually still be able to contact them for assistance. In either case, Apple will not get involved in any third party sales.
