Safari private browsing ignores DNS settings

This question has been asked before: ios17 private browsing overrides DNS - Apple Community

and the suggested answer to disable advanced tracking and fingerprint protection works however if it can just be turned back on in settings, it defeats the purpose of using DNS to block inappropriate content.

This seems like a massive oversight on behalf of Apple who are now putting children at risk with this feature.

Am I missing something or should Apple be fixing this as a matter of urgency?
