I have three very old iMacs, bought in the early 2000s, that need to be recycled. For one thing, they have CRT screens. They are very heavy, so they must have a hunk of iron inside. Will Apple take them back for recycling? Apple's website says they will recycle an old computer only if you've bought a new Apple computer recently and/or provide a purchase receipt.

CRT screens may make them harder to recycle. You can check with Staples as they have a very liberal policy on what they accept. What they accept is in this web page:

Many counties have free electronics recycling. Check your county's website (or perhaps your township or municipality). Some have free dropoff at your local or regional waste facility; others have specific dates during the year at specific locations.
Best Buy will accept virtually any electronic product for recycling if you have a store in your area.
I would hang onto them!
