Will Apple accept my old iMac for Recycling?

I have three very old iMacs, bought in the early 2000s, that need to be recycled. For one thing, they have CRT screens. They are very heavy, so they must have a hunk of iron inside. Will Apple take them back for recycling? Apple's website says they will recycle an old computer only if you've bought a new Apple computer recently and/or provide a purchase receipt.

CRT screens may make them harder to recycle. You can check with Staples as they have a very liberal policy on what they accept. What they accept is in this web page:

Staples recycling policy

The list includes CRT monitors/displays.

For us, Staples have been an good solution because:

  • our nearest Apple Store is 100 miles away
  • It is a downtown "storefront type" location and parking is limited
  • You have to schlep heavy computers from a mall parking garage adnout a block away.
