don't want my photos on the phone in my MacBook Air

I have synced my iCloud ID from my phone to my new MacBook Air, but I don't want my photos on my phone to be transfered to my Mac, can this be changed? or like is there a way to remove the photos from the computer while they're still on my iPhone?

MacBook Air, macOS 14.5

If you turn off iCloud Photos on the Mac (and leave it off), the Mac will not sync photos with iCloud and with other devices where iCloud Photos is turned on. If iCloud Photos is off on the Mac, you can delete photos from the Mac without them deleting from other devices. To turn off, see the "Turn off iCloud Photos on one device" section of How to turn off iCloud Photos - Apple Support
