Per Apple's iOS18 preview page:
...the full release version still only shown as "Coming this Fall."
Known release dates of recent iOS versions suggest a pattern:
Test?? RCs are pretty much the final version... please stop taking this too serious.
If you install beta software on your "regular" phone, there will be some bugs with apps that are now running OK on the current software.
If you do not have a "spare" phone, then you need to wait for the official release of the new iOS version.
Betas cannot be discussed here. RC versions are still Betas.
There is no support from Apple for Betas unless you are a registered developer.
If you are not prepared to handle any issues that come up in the RC version. on your own, you should not install it.

Because you would never want to install test software on your "everyday" or "work" phone.
Pretty much, but not "THE" final version. Any issues that crop up will still not be able to be discussed here regardless.

Yes, you can download the Release Candidate (RC) version of iOS 18 if you’re enrolled in the Apple Developer Program or the Apple Beta Software Program. The RC version is typically released to developers and beta testers a week or so before the official public release. It is out now for developers.

• Stability: The RC version is generally more stable than earlier beta versions, but since it’s still pre-release software, you may encounter bugs or issues. That can brick your phone WORST case scenario.

• Compatibility: Some apps might not yet be optimized for iOS 18, so make sure any critical apps you rely on will work with the new version. Such as banking, restaurant, and work apps.

The public release of iOS 18 will upgrade any previous iOS version. If you no longer wish to participate in the beta program, go into the Software Update settings and turn beta updates off.

iOS 18 has not yet been released.
It is most likely the version that gets released to the public, so it IS. Every build can have bugs that crash your device. So the ois versions are usually a few weeks or months later really "final"
