I see people referencing the cord as a lightning to c cable. But my cable looks exactly the same in both ends. What is the difference between the lighting end and C end of cable?

Lightning and USB-C are physically different connectors.
If it looks exactly the same its probably a USB-C to USB-C cable and not lightning.
Look very closely to the connectors at both ends.
A USB-C connector will not plug into a lightning port on an iPhone.
A lightning connector can fit into a USB-C port on an iPhone or other device, but will be loose and do nothing, and may cause an electrical short if its connected to a power adapter. You should not connect a Lightning cable end into a USB-C port for any reason.

Lightning is a flattish rectangular connector. You see it on older iPhones. You'll also see the electrical connectors exposed on the surface of the connector.
USB-C is a hollow flattened oval. It has rounded sides.
USB-A is also hollow but has squared off sides.
USB is larger than lightning.
I don't think I have ever seen lightning at both ends. It is common to see USB A or C to lightning, though more typical to see to USB A since newer Apple devices use USB-C to USB-C.
