Before the recent update (10.6.1) I was able to reply to messages using the keyboard, however since the update the keyboard is no longer there and I can only use scribble. Can the keyboard no longer be used?

Tlhe SE has never had a keyboard from Apple, only 7 and above. If you had one before, you got it from the app store, and you will have to do that again if it is missing now.
