Importing music to iMac from memory stick

I have a load of tracks on a memory stick but I can't import any tracks into the Music app on my iMac.

I've looked in Apple Communities and the solution provided doesn't work.

It offers this from the File menu: In the Music app on your Mac, choose File > Add To Library or File > Import.

Add To Library option doesn't exist on my Mac just File > Import. I click on Import, select the tracks I want, then the only option I then get is "Open". I click on "Open" and absolutely nothing happens.

I've tried dragging files across - that doesn't work either. It used to be so much easier in Windows!!!

What am I doing wrong?

Any help will be gratefully received - just wasted an hour getting nowhere.
