Notification for new OS updates that don't exist

Hello,

A notification in MacOS Sonoma tells me that there are new updates, but when I click on it, there aren't any!

My OS is up to date...

I don't know if it's a bug, but it seems to have been doing so since Sonoma 14.6. I happens 3/4 times per week.

New updates

New software is ready for installation.

Mac mini, macOS 14.6

This appears to be a side effect of participating in beta problems. Apple recently implemented stricter policies for participating in the beta program. Before, the installers links were publicly available and anyone could install them. Now, they are tied to your Apple account. But apparently, anytime a new beta version of anything gets posted, you get the notification, whether or not the device receiving the notification is on the beta or not. So it's not really broken. The notification is for you, not your computer.

I don't know if it's possible to unenrol in any of the beta programs, or if Apple is ever going to change this behaviour. Given how people are always chomping at the bit to get the latest version of everything, it certainly sounds like the system is operating as designed and giving people exactly what they want.

For the record, I don't see this problem on Ventura. As a developer, I do have access to the betas and run some of them. Perhaps since there are no more beta versions of Ventura, I don't get the notifications.
